In 2023,
IDA provided
healthcare services directly benefiting 431,144 individuals.
IDA employs a structured approach to health programming, including a Project Management Unit with field coordinators, project managers and area managers. A Technical Unit monitors, evaluates and maintains the quality of care and service provision.
Specialized teams in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) and Information Management ensure a streamlined workflow.
Our own Health Information Management System (HIMS 1 & 2) enables data collection, analysis, documentation, archiving, and data-driven decision-making.
IDA supports 45 primary healthcare centers in Aleppo and Idlib governorates to ensure continuous access to essential life-saving healthcare services. These health facilities comprise 36 fixed centers and 9 mobile centers. They offer a range of services, including reproductive healthcare, child health, management of communicable and non-communicable diseases and community-based health intervention including home visits, outreach health promotion activities and school health mobile teams. Additionally, many of these healthcare facilities integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS).
In parallel, IDA is strengthening the health system’s referral capacity to minimize service fragmentation. This is accomplished through the leadership of a health network in Afrin, which facilitates coordination and provides gap funding for over 25 healthcare centers. IDA actively promotes effective referrals and capacity building among local healthcare providers and primary healthcare management staff.
CENTERS
IDA is supporting the Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) in 10 primary health care facilities under the technical leadership of the Syria Immunization group in Azaz, Jarablus, Al-Bab, and Afrin.
IDA activated three equipped dental mobile clinics to improve access to dentistry care services in Azaz, Al-Bab and Jarablus districts.
IDA plays a crucial role in addressing gaps in the health system by focusing on quality secondary healthcare services and managing referrals from lower-level facilities. To elevate the health system and provide advanced secondary and tertiary care, IDA has strategically partnered with donors, securing necessary health technologies and expertise for specialized surgical interventions.
A significant achievement lies in establishing a crucial supply line for medications and medical supplies. This success stems from strategic partnerships with international donors and UN agencies, coupled with effective medical supply chain management practices. IDA utilizes well-equipped warehouses in northwest Syria for efficient storage and distribution.

Notably, in Muhammad Wassim Maaz Hospital, IDA has gained access to a range of surgical procedures, including reconstructive, vascular, neurologic, orthopedic, urologic, ophthalmologic surgeries and tumor removal. Additionally, IDA has bolstered diagnostic and curative capabilities by acquiring advanced health technologies such as two CT Scan devices, one MRI, a cardiac catheterization device, three mammography devices for breast cancer detection, an advanced ophthalmic surgery device, and endoscopic ultrasound devices.
Notably, in Muhammad Wassim Maaz Hospital, IDA has gained access to a range of surgical procedures, including reconstructive, vascular, neurologic, orthopedic, urologic, ophthalmologic surgeries and tumor removal. Additionally, IDA has bolstered diagnostic and curative capabilities by acquiring advanced health technologies such as two CT Scan devices, one MRI, a cardiac catheterization device, three mammography devices for breast cancer detection, an advanced ophthalmic surgery device, and endoscopic ultrasound devices.
Furthermore, IDA extends comprehensive healthcare services to individuals with disabilities, offering artificial limbs, joints, assistive devices (mobility aids, hearing aids and eyeglasses), and physical rehabilitation services. Specialized care services also include support for two blood banks in Azaz and Atareb Subdistricts, three cholera treatment centers in Azaz, Afrin, and Jarablus districts, and one tuberculosis management center in Al-Bab District.
