Joint replacement campaign for earthquake victims in Syria

Muhammad Abdel Samie is a displaced Syrian from Aleppo who used to live in Jandris in the countryside of Afrin. Unfortunately, his home was one of the many destroyed by the earthquake that hit northwestern Syria on February 6, 2023. As a result of the quake, Muhammad suffered multiple fractures in his pelvis and hip, as well as other injuries, leaving him unable to work and support his family.

Muhammad is the head of his family and the sole breadwinner for his wife and children. In addition to his injuries, his children suffered injuries during the earthquake and required long-term medical care. Muhammad and his family are now living in a tent in the northern countryside of Aleppo, struggling to make ends meet.

We’re launching this joint replacement fund to support Muhammad and his family and other Syrian patients in desperate need of medical assistance. We aim to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of joint replacement surgeries for 15 patients suffering from similar conditions.

The Independent Doctors Association has a specialized surgical hospital and skilled doctors specializing in joint replacement surgeries. However, the grant that covers the hospital does not cover the purchase of joints, whose cost ranges from $500 to $900, depending on the type and number required for each patient.
