Mission Statement – How we do it

We don’t know when there will be a solution to the conflict in Syria. But we know that every Syrian deserves a future in health and dignity.

And this is where we come in: We provide comprehensive health, nutrition, and protection services in areas inside Syria where no one else is taking over this responsibility. We focus on the needs of displaced people and the communities hosting them. We aim to honor every patient’s dignity and empower the health workforce in Syria.

Our Story

The Independent Doctors Association (IDA) was founded in 2012 by a group of Syrian doctors from Aleppo, responding to the healthcare and humanitarian crisis in their home country. We at IDA are committed to providing medical and humanitarian assistance to those affected by conflicts, natural disasters, and epidemics without discrimination. Through our tireless efforts and unwavering dedication, IDA has grown to become one of the most important organizations in the region, operating more than 30 health and nutrition facilities. Our team of over 1000 employees, including doctors, nurses, technicians, and community health workers, work diligently to provide quality healthcare services. Our commitment to medical impartiality and protecting civilians, hospitals, and healthcare workers have made us a powerful advocate for unhindered humanitarian access and the neutrality of aid provision. Despite our challenges, IDA has achieved many successes in the field, providing critical medical and humanitarian assistance to those who need it most in North West Syria and Turkey. We continue to expand our reach and improve our services to ensure the right to the highest attainable standard of health for all. We strive to be a meaningful representation of civil society and NGOs in decision-making processes and always be responsive to the needs of the communities we serve. As we look to the future, IDA remains optimistic, working tirelessly to provide medical and humanitarian assistance to those who need it most and to advocate for the rights of civilians, hospitals, and healthcare workers. With the support of our dedicated staff and volunteers, IDA will continue to impact the lives of the people we serve positively.
